Bad news - the internal HD could not load maps fast enough.

Good news - running the VM off of a shared 7200rpm SATA drive via gigabit ethernet did the trick. Load times are almost as fast as a dedicated X2 4800+ setup.

My G5 can’t run the VM as it is a PPC and my Intel box can’t serve the data fast enough due to its 4800rpm drive. I really should be running this off of the X2 box but the coolness factor (for me) is that I can do this with a Mac (er, two Macs).
