Though many people choose colocation over managed hosting yet there are many reasons also why you should not choose colocation web hosting.

Colocation centers are always found in large cities and also near the major network hubs and therefore if you do not stay in a large city it is difficult for you to get a colocation center. The geographic options are always limited in the cases of colocation data centers and in spite of you having good staff to manage the system it is not always easy to go for colocation web hosting.

 

It is often said that colocation is more expensive than managed web hosting. To some extent it is correct. The reasons are you either have to lease or purchase the software and the equipments. Also for running and maintaining them you need to have staff or you need to pay the colocation hosting service provider so that they do the maintenance.

 

It is not always easy to have physical access to your equipment firstly because of the travelling time that you have to spend and secondly because of the service hours of the colocation centers.

 

It is difficult to move your business if you are moving to another city when you are using colocation hosting service. This is because you have to spend extra travel time for moving the system to a new colocation center. Also if you do not find a colocation center in your new city then you need to pay the old colocation center for maintaining your server.

 

There are always significant variations in the monthly expenses of a colocation web hosting. This happens in the case of data traffic rate between your server and Internet. If you have to use excess bandwidth and your monthly allotment exceeds then you have to pay more.
