hollow earth cake

made for the hollow earth radio show and bbq this saturday.

the cake is round like me olde katamari cake (i baked it the same way) only it’s hollowed out. uh, and it has no cupcake tops adhered to it.

it’s much easier to hollow out the cake halves if you freeze them first. so, if you’re needing to make a hollow earth cake, make sure you do that. also, use a melon baller. they’re handy little tools.

the tiles are made from graham crackers that i cut up with an xacto. they’re dyed with food dye and, in the case of the white, acrylic paint. the letters were done with sharpie. so, i guess, technically, you could eat them since everything is nontoxic. buuuut i wouldn’t advise it.

yeah, i know, the continents aren’t as well shaped as they could be. but, well, i’m terrible at cartography. also? i haven’t really slept in four days. ;D

oh yeah! it’s a lemon cake with buttercream icing.
